Incorporated in the year 1950, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) regulates all the developments in the city. The corporation is responsible for taking up entire civic infrastructure and the administration of the city. Besides tax services, AMC also undertakes obligatory services like Fire Services, Street Lighting Services, Maintenance of Monuments and Open Spaces, Education Services, Ambulance Services, Maintenance of Factories and disposal and Shelter for Homeless and Poor.

A Brief History of Ahmedabad

The history of Ahmedabad is centuries old. Founded in 15th century by Sultan Ahmed Shah on Sabarmati River, the city has witnessed many rulers.  The city became the capital of Gujarat after the bifurcation of Bombay on 1 May 1960. This was the time when the city witnessed the development of educational institutes. But later in two decades, the city was punctuated with politics. Hence the city occupied the center stage of national politics.

As for geography of Ahmedabad, the city is located on the western side of India, on the banks of Sabarmati River. Being a trade city, the economy of Ahmedabad is scaling upwards. The economy mainly depends on industrial sectors like chemicals, textiles, drugs and pharmaceuticals. With the presence of Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA) has helped city becoming the major center of textile industry.

This city is the center of largest industries, especially the textile industry.  The city’s major economy is trusted on its textile industry.  Ahmedabad textile industry is a boom to GDP of the city and has some of the major textile industries including- Arvind Mills, Ashima Group and few others. The GDP of Ahmedabad is mainly depended on these industries built across. Two of the biggest pharma companies, Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals are located in the city.
